Time to Get Healthy

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

Our maple tree is losing all its pretty red leaves. I guess it is preparing for winter and rest. Our bodies get into that rest mode too.

With Thanksgiving only a little more than a month away, it's time to reflect with gratitude our many blessings. I so appreciate the bounty of food I have in my life.

At the same time, though, I long for the trim body I had not very long ago.

Florence Shinn wrote, "The game of life is the game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds, and words return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy." My overeating is catching up to me. I've been gaining weight!

Now I am coming upon the season of plenty with my body's innate desire for rest. Wow! What to do?

Well, I received an email a couple of days ago with all the super foods I could use to restore my sense of health and well-being. This holiday season I am letting go of the of the bad habit of over-eating. Just like my maple tree, I'm going to shed what no longer serves me. Here are some healthy foods to get me back on track. This will be my gift to myself. Want to join me at God's pharmacy? This is the info I received in my email:

"A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye.... And YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries.

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body's cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body."

This is the kind of food I want to give my body instead of the unhealthy food I have been feeding it. What an opportunity to meet the challenge by letting God assist me in my quest for health and well-being! "My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for He will pluck my feet out of the net." (Psalms 25:15) Join me if you want, and we'll share our successes!

This morning I used portion control and had only one pancake with butter and syrup. This noon Hubby fixed us a delicious soup full of super foods.

Today I seek comfort in other things besides food. As ACIM says, "I am not the body. I am free for I am still as God created me." When I feel stressed and think of food as a problem solver, I will remember that all I need to do is calm down and take a peace break. I can get through any situation. I choose peace, love, confidence, serenity, and joy instead of distress, fear, blame, and guilt. I remember that ACIM says that I can choose peace instead of this. I feed myself with spiritual food instead of physical food. I choose NOT to overeat. I look at my weight loss journey as an exciting and challenging adventure. I've lightened up by 3.5 pounds, and that is exciting to me. God bless!

"Those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life." ~ John 4:14

It's the beginning of a new year. Hubby and I, as usual, are ready to begin eating correctly and exercising. We plan to change our behavior one thought at a time, one choice at a time. Each moment will be a time to ask ourselves what we can do to be the change we want to see like Gandhi suggested.

What are we willing to do to become our healthier selves? We will consciously choose a healthy journey to fitness, and as we do that, we will rid ourselves of any fear that could hold us back. We will draw good health to ourselves. We're excited about our journey. We always are.

If we make an error in judgment in food choices, we won't waste time berating ourselves. Instead we will consciously join with our original motivating strategy, and go with the flow. If we make an error, we will simply choose again. We know we are ultimately responsible for our own choices, and we also believe that we are very capable of making good choices. 2010 is the year of win-win! We believe in you too. Whatever you choose to do this year, we believe in your success!

Love and Light,
Patty

In an excerpt from Women, Food, and God, Geneen Roth shares seven guidelines to eating more consciously.

* Eat when you are hungry.

* Eat sitting down in a calm environment. This does not include the car.

* Eat without distractions. Distractions include radio, television, newspapers, books, intense or anxiety-producing conversations or music.

* Eat what your body wants.

* Eat until you are satisfied.

* Eat (with the intention of being) in full view of others.

* Eat with enjoyment, gusto and pleasure.

According to actress Lauren Bacall, "Imagination is the highest kite one can fly." We are not limited in any way as long as we co-create with God the life we want to have. Right now my husband and I are creating a life of health and vigor. We eat right and exercise. We affirm the results we desire and enjoy the journey. We cultivate the feelings that go with the image of our energetic bodies and are very grateful for this vessel that can see beautiful fall colors, touch the faces of our loved ones, hear awe-inspiring music, smell the aroma of coffee brewing in the morning, and taste the sweetness of a fresh, ripe cantaloupe. We speak to our bodies with love and appreciate their functions. How glad we are to be getting healthier every day! God bless you too as you create the life you desire. Love will help you find the way.

Light and Love,

Patty
